46 New Exploratory drilling licences awarded in U.K.

UK gas and oil exploration

The British government has awarded 46 licences for gas and oil exploration, these were initially held back due to environmental concerns. The government has now stated that it deems them to be safe in the following regions: North Sea, West of Shetland, The English Channel.

Firms to benefit from this include: Centrica, RWE, Shell and GDF Suez.

    Agreed, this has in a way been long overdue. The government has planned these licences for a considerable amount of time but have felt threatened from releasing them due to a fear of upsetting their partners
